We narrowed down the results to the precinct in Beachwood and pinpointed the only precinct that went to Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney.
Beachwood is traditionally a left-leaning city, and this election was no different. Only one precinct out of the city's 10 went to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Tuesday's general election. President Barack Obama won the national election, and in Beachwood, he won by a wide margin. See Beachwood's raw numbers here. Even when the candidate was homegrown, Beachwood did not support the Republican: Josh Mandel, a Beachwood High School alumni, didn't win a single precinct in Beachwood. Kid-created posters about voting, Presidential candidates determined to be in violation of campaign laws, taken down from Bryden Elementary Tuesday.
Kids' posters with photos of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney and messages like, "Vote!" and smiley faces were taken down from Bryden Elementary Tuesday after a voter pointed out that they could be seen as campaign material. The posters, like the one in the photo to the right, were hanging in the hallway just inside the door to the school, violating the 100-foot "no campaign" zone required by law around any polling place. The posters were drawn by Bryden kids during a mock election that took place at the school Monday, district spokesperson Doug Levin said, though he was unaware that any were hanging in the hallway in question. We delve into election results to see how Beachwood residents voted on the presidential, senate and other races down the ballot.
Barack Obama won the national vote and he won in Ohio. He also won in Beachwood, according to unofficial vote totals from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. While Cuyahoga County is a Democratic stronghold, Republicans needed to perform well in the suburbs to shave off votes from the president's total. While Romney performed better in Beachwood than he did countywide — he won 32 percent of Beachwood's vote to Cuyahoga County's 30 percent — he did not do enough. In addition, Beachwood residents also chose Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown over GOP challenger and hometown native Josh Mandel. Child-created posters left over from a mock election at Bryden Elementary School caused an issue this morning when the building became a polling place, a poll worker told Patch. The posters, like the one in the photo to the right, were hanging in the hallway just inside the door to the school, violating the 100-foot "no campaign" zone required by law around any polling place. It's unclear how many were hanging, but the Board of Elections was contacted at around 9 a.m. and school staff took them down right away. Ohio's voting goes until 7:30 p.m., but some polls elsewhere close later.
Ohio voters have until 7:30 p.m. to cast their ballots, but voting in other key swing states doesn't end until hours later. Exit polling could provide an early indication of whether President Barack Obama or Mitt Romney will win the White House. The earliest key state to watch are Virginia and Florida, where polls close at 7 p.m. Voting also ends at 7:30 p.m. in fellow swing state North Carolina. The majority of New Hampshire's polls close between 7 and 8 p.m. At 8 p.m., the swing state of Pennsylvania closes its polls. A portion of Florida closes its polls at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard time, too—the state is split across two time zones. It’s finally Election Day, but Ohio—especially Northeast Ohio—isn’t out of the spotlight yet. Both the Obama and Romney campaigns made a stop in (the exact same spot of) Cleveland earlier today. CNN reports that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s plane landed at the airport earlier today. Shortly before noon, the plane for his vice presidential candidate, Paul Ryan, also landed. So did Vice President Joe Biden’s plane. With all the recent campaign stops in the area, this isn't surprising. The Washington Post's Election 2012 Blog reports that this has actually happened to the candidates three times in the past three days, including this past weekend in Cleveland.
