Baby Clothes, Designer Shirts and Sunglasses: Retail Theft in Beachwood

The following information was supplied by the Beachwood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Baby Clothes and False ID Two teen-age girls were caught trying to steal baby clothes from H&M in Beachwood Place at 4 p.m. Friday May 10. Police said they hid the clothing in their purses. Adding to their crimes, they also gave false names when identifying themselves to Beachwood Police. Shoplifting Designer Shirts A teenage girl was charged with shoplifting after being caught trying to take two Ralph Lauren shirts from Dillard’s on Monday May 13. Tiffany Sunglasses Lead To Arrest A man was arrested for shoplifting after being caught trying to take a pair of $385 Tiffany sunglasses from the Sunglass Hut in Beachwood Place Sunday May 12. Police found that the man also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and took him into custody.

Woman doesn't get far in Dillard's Friday, June 8, 4:25 p.m. — A woman didn't get too far in her attempt to steal merchandise from Beachwood Place Mall. Officers responded to a call that an adult female was attempting to get away with shoplifting at Dillard's. According to a police report, officers caught the woman in the act and arrested her. She tried to exit with $326 worth of goods. No lights, pot possession Saturday, June 9, 12:56 a.m. — An early morning bike ride turned into a couple of citations for two men on Cedar Road. Police: Thousands Stolen from Beachwood Place Cash Registers

No forced entry into store, police say

Someone broke into 24 cash registers at Dillard's last week, stealing over $2,000 and causing over $1,500 of damage. An employee called police at just before 8 a.m. Monday, April 2 to report that the break-in occurred sometime between 6 p.m. April 1 and 7:51 a.m. April 2. No signs of forced entry into the store were spotted by police, according to the report. The damage to the registers will cost the store $1,550  and $2,125 in cash was stolen. Beachwood Police said that no suspects have been identified.

Person arrested after leaving drug paraphernalia in fitness center Monday, Feb. 20, 5:53 p.m. — The property manager at the Hamptons Apartments found a backpack in the complex fitness facility with drug paraphernalia inside. He reported it to police, who found the bag’s owner and arrested them. Juvenile charged with stealing $394 of merchandise Monday, Feb. 20, 5:24 p.m. — A boy was arrested for stealing cosmetics from Sephora valued at $394. Woman crashes car in Jewish Community Center parking lot Wednesday, Feb. 22, 3:56 p.m. — A woman crashed her car in the Mandel Jewish Community Center parking lot and was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of drugs. Purse stolen at Bally Monday, Jan. 23, 10:23 p.m. — A woman reported that her purse was stolen from an unlocked locker at Bally Total Fitness. She estimates the value of the purse and the items inside at over $3,000. Protestors gather at Signature Square Monday, Dec. 12, 12:48 p.m. — Police were called to 25101 Chagrin Boulevard because protestors had gathered in front of the building. The protestors told police a company in the building was the parent company of a business in Indiana that was not bargaining in good faith with employees. Officers cleared the area. H&M employee arrested for thefts Monday, Dec. 12, 1:59 p.m. — An employee at H&M was arrested and charged with stealing $696 of merchandise from the store. Shoplifter Hits Police Cruiser While Fleeing

No one injured in mall incident

No officers were injured when a fleeing shoplifter struck a police in her car at the Beachwood Place Mall Sunday, police report. According to Beachwood Police, the woman was running from security after shoplifting $200 of merchandise from Dillard’s. Chief Mark Sechrist said that Dillard’s security called Beachwood Police while chasing the woman. The officers tried to stop the woman’s car and she struck the cruiser with her own vehicle. The vehicle sustained damage to its bumper. Officers have the license plate number of the car, added Sechrist, and decided not to chase the woman because it would pose a threat to public safety. He said that the woman will be charged with shoplifting, fleeing police and hit and skip.

Home, pedestrian struck with paintballs Tuesday, Nov. 29, 10:47 p.m. — A homeowner on Cedar Road reported that someone had shot the house with a paintball. Half an hour later a pedestrian reported that someone in a silver four-door sedan shot him in the arm with a paintball as he was walking down Chagrin Boulevard. $100 stolen in Park Drive break-in Wednesday, Nov. 30, 10:55 a.m. — Someone broke into Parker Clinic at 3733 Park East Drive and stole $100 in petty cash. Advantage Diagnostics, in the same building, also reported that the office had been broken into, but nothing was reported stolen. Air conditioners stolen Monday, Nov. 7 —  Residents of Ten Courts at 25450 Fairmount Boulevard, Wedgewood Crossing at 3224 Richmond Road and a home on the 2400 block of Richmond Road reported air conditioners stolen.
