Library will host ice cream social and grand opening June 10
The Beachwood Public Library will host an ice cream social June 10 to celebrate the completion of $885,000 in renovations. Branch manager William Kelly said he expected the new drive-thru — the first in the Cuyahoga County Public Library network — to open this week. Click through the photos above to see the completed project. The grand re-opening and ice cream social is free, but the library asks that you RSVP (so there's enough ice cream for everyone!). Move of main entrance, new drive-thru among changes
The Beachwood Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library’s renovations are about six weeks away from completion, said Branch Manager Bill Kelly. The library has been open throughout the $885,000 renovations, which were paid for by a bond sale and expected to be complete May 8. A drive-through window will be added to the west side of the building, and the main entrance, which is on that side now, will be moved to the north side, adjacent to the parking lot. Interior renovations further separate and define the teen section from the rest of the library. A new children’s story time room, which is nearing completion, and space for an ongoing Friends of the Beachwood Branch book sale will be added to the floor plan. The renovations are part of…

Cuyahoga County Public Library offers mail service to eligible residents
Homebound residents can now have library materials mailed. Eligible residents can order materials online or over the phone and the library will mail them to them for free. Like DVD subscription services, the materials will come in a reusable envelope that patrons can use to send the materials back after using. More details and applications for the program, which is supported by the McGregor Foundation, are available at the library’s website.

The system will lose money under the new state budget, but there are no plans for cuts to services.
Libraries may have less to work with under the new state budget, but visitors to the Cuyahoga County Public Library system shouldn’t expect to see any cuts, officials say. According to the Ohio Legislative Service Commission, the Public Library Fund received about $368 million in fiscal year 2011. In fiscal year 2012, that fund is expected to receive $354 million and $345 million in fiscal year 2013. The methodology for libraries’ funding has changed in this budget, said Scott Morgan, operations director and fiscal officer for the Cuyahoga County Public Library system. The last biennium budget allocated a percentage—almost 2 percent—of the state’s general revenue to the Public Library Fund. This new budget bases the allocation on the …
