Beachwood Students Excel in Debate, Math, Writing

Check out recent accomplishments from Beachwood students at the district website

Spring is a time for academic competitions, and Beachwood City Schools students have been raking in the hardware with wins at state and regional competitions. Like Jessica Gill, who, as a Beachwood High School junior, took home the school's first-ever state championship trophy from the Ohio High School Speech and Debate League State Tournament. Or Beachwood Middle School's math whizzes, the MATHCOUNTS team, who placed fourth at regionals. Or Molly Rosen, who took first in Power of the Pen (a extracurricular close to my own heart), leading her team to a fourth-place ranking. Click the links above for each story.

BMS Program Stresses Respect For Peers

Challenge Day comes to Beachwood Middle School

Beachwood City Schools' 7th- and 8th-graders spent a day learning a powerful message last week: respect each other. "You don't really know what's going on with other kids outside of school," said Cameron Umpleby, a 7th-grader who participated in the day-long group seminar that, by late afternoon, felt like a pep rally for respect. Instead of the 15 to 20 pages of forms, information, lunch menus and calendars parents are used to getting, the packet will be three or four pages long and include a letter from the school principal directing them to the district’s brand new website. At first glance, the site looks very similar to the website users saw yesterday. But the new features are there: namely, a “back-to-school” section that has the volume of information that has been mailed out to every student in the district each year and a couple …
