Middle Schooler Harassed, Woman Hurt in I-271 Crash: Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Beachwood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Middle School Harassment A Beachwood woman reported to police on May 9 that her daughter was being harassed by her Beachwood Middle School classmates. Police are investigating. Tire Failure Causes Injury Crash on I-271 A car and a truck were southbound on I-271 on May 9 just before noon when one of the car’s tires blew out. The tire problem caused the car to veer into the truck and then spin before it hit a concrete bridge barrier at South Woodland Road. The driver of the car, an 80-year-old Aurora woman, had minor injuries. The driver of the truck, a 24-year-old Norwalk man, was not hurt.  Funny Money Dillard's in Beachwood Place reported to Beachwood Police that somebody bought something from the store with a suspicious $100 bill on May…

Three Of Beachwood's Destination Imagination Teams Advance To Global Competition

Beachwood Middle School's "In Disguise" team was ranked the best in Ohio during the recent state competition

Four teams from Beachwood Schools -- one from Hilltop Elementary School and two from Beachwood Middle School -- have earned a spot at the global Destination ImagiNation Tournament, according to the district's web site. These three teams all finished in first through fourth place in their competitions for their respective age divisions at the state competition earlier this month at Mount Vernon. Before that, they also had to finish in first place in their competitions for their respective age divisions at the regional tournament at Chagrin Falls High School. Destination ImaginNation is an educational program in which student teams solve open-ended challenges

Four teams from Beachwood Schools -- two each from Hilltop Elementary School and Beachwood Middle School -- have earned a spot at the statewide Destination ImagiNation Tournament, according to the district's web site. These four teams finished in first place in their competitions for their respective age divisions at the regional tournament at Chagrin Falls High School. The state competition will be in Mount Vernon on April 20. Eight teams from Hilltop and four more from Beachwood Middle School competed at the regional tournament. Ten of them earned fourth place or higher in their event. No. 3 Top Story of 2012: Chardon Victim was Grandson of BMS Wrestling Coach

Daniel Parmertor was killed in a shooting at Chardon High School. He was the grandson of Beachwood's Domenick Iammarino.

While most in the region were affected by the shooting at Chardon High School earlier this year, the tragedy hit very close to home for a Beachwood Middle School coach. Domenick Iammarino, the school's wrestling coach, was the grandfather of Daniel Parmertor, 16, who was killed during the shooting. When Beachwood athletic director Ryan Peters recruited Brad Burget from New Albany to coach the Bison swim team, the expectation was that Burget would build a program from the bottom of the pool and up. Burget has delivered. “That’s why we came up here,” said Burget, who enters his third year at the helm of the Bison swimming program. “I had the opportunity to start the club team, and we have that going with about 120 kids; most of them are in fifth grade or down. Beachwood City Schools Report Card Ranking Released

The school district's 2011-2012 data was published by the Ohio Department of Education. Find out how the district fared.

Beachwood City Schools have been rated 'Excellent' for the 13th year in a row in preliminary results released today by the Ohio Department of Education. The district met all 26 of the report card indicators—measures like how many students scored proficient on a certain state test or attendance rate—and have a preliminary performance index of 108.8 out of 120. The performance index, up from 107.4 for the 2010-2011 school year, measures how well students performed on state tests overall. Beachwood High School, Middle School and Hilltop Elementary were all rated 'exellent' as well. Beachwood High School Hosting Tech Open House

See how the district is using technology in the classroom at tonight's Tech Night

Beachwood City Schools is exploring new ways to use technology in the classroom and teachers and staff will be on hand tonight to show parents how. Technology Night is at 7 p.m. at Beachwood Middle School. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade will give live demonstrations on how they are using Smartboard, iPads, cloud technology and more. Plus, parents will see a demonstration on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, the site where they can access their children's records, grades and more.

Beachwood City Schools Announces New Schedule

Beachwood High School, Middle School and elementary schools affected by new arrival and dismissal times.

Beachwood City Schools Superintendent Rich Markwardt announced changes to the four schools' arrival and dismissal schedules in an email to parents this afternoon. Scroll down to see all the changes. The changes, which affect all schools except Fairmount Early Childhood Center, are not as drastic as what Markwardt proposed to the Board of Education in June. The changes stemmed from an effort from the busing staff to streamline the district's transportation, but Markwardt stressed that busing efficiency is prioritzed second to serving the student's needs. With the proposed change all of the third graders are attending school this year with a earlier start time of 8am vs 915am (1 1/4 hr earlier) and the efficient bus routing has these children being picked up at 710 ( req 10 min early first month) totaling a change in 8 year olds schedules of adding 2 1/2 hours for the children of concord and beacon   more ›
