Entrovation Creates Networking Opportunity For Entrepreneurs, Innovators & NE Ohio Residents

Entrovation is an expo of Innovative Entrepreneurs that will attract more than 130 businesses and 5,000 attendees to showcases out-of-the-box ideas Friday at the Beachwood Community Center

Entrepreneurs, innovators, movers, shakers, networkers and even the simply curious will gather for Entrovation. More than 130 businesses and 5,000 attendees will showcases their out-of-the-box ideas at the expo from noon to 7 p.m. this Friday at the Beachwood Community Center. The expo is the brainchild of Beachwood School’s Marketing & Junior Achievement students, as well as the evolution of their annual Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase. As explained by Beachwood Schools: Entrovation is the intersection of entrepreneurship and innovation. The revamped event expands the principles of sustainability, health and wellness that built The Green Dream to include entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations that are engaged in innovative business…

Beachwood High Library Club Donates More Than 2,800 Books

The books were gifted to the Michael White STEM School in Cleveland

The Beachwood High School Library Club collected 2,858 new and gently used books during its annual book drive. The club then delivered the books Tuesday afternoon to Michael White STEM School in Cleveland. The Beachwood High students even took time to read to the STEM students. Beachwood High School Drama Club Is Performing 'Rent' In April

During the Friday performance, the students will be joined by 20 members of the North Coast Men's Chorus for a special performance of "Seasons of Love"

The Beachwood High Drama Club will be performing the Tony Award-winning musical Rent April 26 through 28. The Friday and Saturday performances will be 8 p.m. at the high school; Sunday's matinee will be 2 p.m. During the Friday performance, the students will be joined by 20 members of the North Coast Men's Chorus for a special performance of "Seasons of Love." 'The Beachcomber' Earns Top Rating From Ohio Scholastic Media Association

This is the highest rating the Beachwood High School student newspaper has ever received

The Beachcomber, the student newspaper of Beachwood High School, had some good news to report after the Ohio Scholastic Media Association conference last weekend at Kent State University. Not only did the paper get a first-place ranking, its best ever, but the students  who write for and design it won 26 awards, including six superior and 11 excellent ratings. According to the Beachwood Schools web site, the following students who won top ratings: Christina Phelps Cathy Perloff Grant Gravagna Ali Pinhasi Jessica Gill Emily Topilow Susan Eiben Erlein Tacastacas SriVidya Uppalapati English teacher Josh Davis serves as the newspaper's adviser.

Beachwood Basketball Coach Pecjak to Resign

High school boys varsity basketball coach steps down after leading Bison to winningest season in 2013

The Plain Dealer has reported that Beachwood High School head varsity coach Jason Pecjak is resigning. He was suspended earlier this year, but he told the paper that was not related to his resignation. The coach led the Bison to their winningnest season in 2013, finishing at 23-4 and making it to Regional Finals. Read more about the resignation from The Plain Dealer.

Bison Boys Tennis Team Opens Season With Win Over Avon Lake

The Bison won two of three singles matches and swept both doubles matches.

Submitted by BeachwoodBison.org Beachwood’s boys’ tennis team opened the 2013 season with a big 4-1 win at Avon Lake on Tuesday. The Bison won two of three singles matches and swept both doubles matches. “Avon Lake is a good team and we beat them 4-1,” said Beachwood coach David Cole. “I feel very good about our match and really good about how our kids played for the most part. They didn’t let the elements bother them—it was cold—but they focused well and didn’t make a lot of mistakes.” Junior Karan Gill played first singles and won his match over Tim Villavi, 7-6, 6-3. Junior Daniel Rodriquez came up short against Hunter Tharp in the second singles match, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6 and Sophomore Alex Machtay beat Jimmy Chase in third singles, 6-2, 6-3…

Beachwood Students Named Maltz Essay Semi-Finalists

Two Beachwood seniors finished in the Top 25 of the "Stop The Hate" essay contest.

While they didn't make it into the final round, two Beachwood High School seniors were named semi-finalists in a local essay contest. Jessica Gill and Jori Holloway are both semi-finalists in the fifth annual Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out! essay contest, according to a press release. Gill and Holloway were among 25 students from around the area to be semi-finalists. The Top 10 finalists were named and will compete for a total of $100,000 in scholarships and prizes.  Their essays address a variety of issues, from living with alopecia, mental illness to LGBT issues and economic diversity and offer heartfelt and innovative solutions.

Beachwood DECA Sends Two to National Competition

Five students finished in the Top 10 at the state competition.

Five students from the Beachwood High School Excel TECC Marketing program placed in the Top 10 in the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) marketing state championships in Columbus on March 15. Geordi Kogovsek placed first in the Principles of Business Management and Administration event, while Robert Kaufman nabbed second in the Food Marketing event. Mary Anderson, Marissa Stark, and Gavin Clark also placed in the Top 10 in their respective categories, according to a press release from the school. Kogovsek and Kaufmann will advance to the International DECA Marketing Competition in Anaheim, California at the end of April. More than 4,000 marketing students from across the state were tested about their knowledge of the business …
