Beachwood High School National Merit Scholars To Be Recognized Tonight

14 students have earned national recognition for their scores on the pre-SAT test.

Beachwood City Schools Report Card Ranking Released

The school district's 2011-2012 data was published by the Ohio Department of Education. Find out how the district fared.

Beachwood City Schools have been rated 'Excellent' for the 13th year in a row in preliminary results released today by the Ohio Department of Education. The district met all 26 of the report card indicators—measures like how many students scored proficient on a certain state test or attendance rate—and have a preliminary performance index of 108.8 out of 120. The performance index, up from 107.4 for the 2010-2011 school year, measures how well students performed on state tests overall. Beachwood High School, Middle School and Hilltop Elementary were all rated 'exellent' as well. (Bryden Elementary School is not rated because there are no statewide assessments for kindergarten through second grade.) While the attendance rate and performance…

Beachwood Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program Under Evaluation by 29 Districts

Beachwood Board of Education responded to a request that a separate task force be formed to evaluate the future of the program.

The Beachwood Board of Education responded to parents and supporters of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Consortium program about its future at Monday’s meeting. The consortium, whose program is administered by Beachwood City Schools, is comprised of 29 school districts, including Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights-University Heights, Twinsburg, Solon and Mayfield Heights. Supporters have gathered over 400 signatures on a petition asking the board to form a task force to evaluate the future of the program after it was brought to light that the district is considering pulling out at program administrator. “As arrogant as it sounds … we are frequently asked to do things by committee and we don’t want to have a paralysis by committee,” said Board …

Beachwood Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program Topic of Debate

Parents, community members expected to attend tonight's Board of Education meeting with concerns about the future of the program administrated by Beachwood City Schools.

Parents and staff involved in Beachwood’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program are expected to make an appearance at tonight’s Board of Education meeting to express fears about the future of the program. A two-year educational interpreter’s union contract, which includes language about Beachwood City Schools discontinuing its role as the program’s fiscal agent after the 2013-2014 school year, was finalized at a special meeting Aug. 30. Beachwood City Schools Handbook, Bus Routes Approved

New schedule, routes reflect better communication with bus drivers, parents, said Superintendent Rich Markwardt.

The Beachwood Board of Education unanimously approved new busing routes and all five schools' handbooks for the 2012-2013 school year at Monday's meeting. The busing routes reflect an improvement in the lines of communication between the administration and the busing staff, said Superintendent Rich Markwardt. "This year will go vastly smoother that last year," he said, adding that the district is preparing for glitches as the drivers and students get used to the new routes. The plan consolidates the middle and high school routes and changes the arrival and dismissal times at most of the schools. Get the details of the final plan here.
