Here are some of this week's weird calls and charges from Northeast Ohio. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Sprayed cab customer: An intoxicated Brecksville man refused to pay his cab driver, and got pepper sprayed for it. The driver told police the man failed to pay his bill on May 17 and had threatened him twice. The driver sprayed the man once in the car and again when the man exited the taxi and kicked it. The man kept making threats once police arrived. He was eventually charged with menacing, petty theft and disorderly conduct by intoxication. Police said he fell asleep at the station. It seems there's no alleged crime too bizarre to occur in Northeast Ohio. Here are some of this week's weird calls and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Threatening Words: Though an Akron man returned the clothing he tried to steal from Walmart, he still ended up in a Fairlawn Police cruiser. He also had some threatening words for the arresting officer. Derek Sampson, 50, tried to walk out of Walmart in Fairlawn on May 13 with three pairs of shorts. When a security officer confronted him, Sampson returned the items. Officers arrested him for theft when he tried to exit again. Once in the cruiser, Sampson told the officer, "You're a dead man … I don't talk to dead men." Read more …
Raccoon is second Michelle Heyer has found in chimney
Michelle Heyer was surprised that police responded to her call about a raccoon in her chimney, but they did. It was the second time a raccoon had been trapped in the chimney of her Bryden Road home, and the first was big enough to crawl out, she said. But this one could not stretch its arms and legs across the length of the inside of the chimney, where she spotted him Saturday, April 7. Beachwood Police officers referred her to the animal warden, but she was worried they would kill the animal. So she took matters into her own hands. Heyer took a long pole and stuck it in her chimney from above, hoping he would crawl out. Then she had to leave for a week on business.
