Purina Issues Pet Food Recall — Animals Could Die if Food Ingested Over Long Period of Time

Check to see if you have these products. Some side effects of eating too much food with elevated vitamin D levels include lack of interest in eating and joint stiffness.

Due to potentially elevated vitamin D levels, Land O’Lakes Purina Feed issued a voluntary recall on some of its pet food this past Friday. Elevated vitamin D levels may cause death to animals and fish if ingested for extended periods of time. Other side effects include: lack of interest in eating, weight loss and possible joint stiffness, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration press release. Although no customer complaints have been received, the following products are being recalled as a precaution: The pet food was distributed nationwide starting April 2, 2012 through May 8, 2012.
