Power Out Tuesday for About 12,000 in Northeast Ohio

People lost power when the storms hit about an hour ago, more reports may come in

About 12,000 people in several cities in Northeast Ohio lost their power this morning after storms hit the area.  About 100 people are out in Cleveland Heights, 650 in Shaker Heights, 55  in Beachwood, less than 500 in Mayfield Heights and between 500 and 2,000 in Solon, said Mark Durbin, spokesperson for FirstEnergy. That number could increase as people come home and discover they have no power, he said.  Though he did not know the exact cause of all the outages, he said most likely the wind took out limbs and trees, which damaged FirstEnergy's equipment, or strong winds took down power sources.  Durbin said the company hopes to have a majority of the outages restored by this evening, but that could change if storms continue to move …

I just checked this outage map, and it looks like less than 500 in your area are still out, which could mean anywhere from a few people up to 500. Here it is for your reference if you still have internet access: http://www.firstenergycorp.com/outages/outages.do?state_code=OH. You can see all of the other areas in Ohio that are out, too.   more ›

Beachwood Man Blows Three Times Legal Limit in Breath Test

Police pulled over a Beachwood man who was three times the legal limit and a suspect in a hit/skip accident in Bedford Heights

A 22-year-old man was arrested on April 1 after police spotted him driving eastbound on Miles Road at 81 mph, according to the Solon Police Department. Gabriel Stokes, of Beachwood, was driving a red Honda and was seen crossing the center line several times by an officer on patrol. When that officer activated his lights and sirens, Stokes continued to flee. The officer followed Stokes onto Beacon Hill Drive in Orange where he pulled into a garage and attempted to shut the door on the officer. However the officer was able to order the man out before the door closed. Stokes was not cooperative when police attempted to take him into custody, so sobriety tests were performed at the jail, which he failed. In a breath test, he blew a .273, three…

Video: Rally Against Senate Bill 5 in Downtown Akron

Hundreds turned out at Laborers' International to protest measure that would weaken public employees' unions in Ohio

Opponents of a bill that would sharply curtail the collective bargaining rights of Ohio's public employees held rallies across the state Tuesday, hoping to build momentum against a measure already adopted by the state Senate and pending in the House of Representatives. In Northeast Ohio, rallies were held in Strongsville, where nearly 1,000 turned out, and Akron, where about 400 people protested at the Laborers' International Hall.
