Shaker Heights police saved the life of a fleeing suspect when he fell through the ice on Green Lake on Feb. 5. At about 9 p.m. Tuesday, a Shaker Heights officer pulled over Vertell Pruitt, 22, of Cleveland Heights, for running a red light, police Lt. Jeffrey DeMuth said. Pruitt stopped his car and fled. Shaker Heights Police Release More Details from Fatal Crash

Department confirms that Brian Horwich died in the crash and release more details about what happened last Thursday morning.

Shaker Heights Police have released more details about the car crash that took the life of 25-year-old Shaker Heights native Brian Horwich last week. More: Family, Friends Remember Brian Horwich The department confirmed that Brian Horwich was the man who died in the crash on Fairmount Boulevard near Warrensville Center Road. They added that he was a passenger in the car. Earlier: Shaker Heights Man Killed in Crash The driver and another passenger were on the scene when police reponded to the crash in the early hours of Nov. 15. Police have not released the names of the two other people in the car. Shaker Heights police charge Maple Heights man in Anderson-Norfus death

Updated 4:21 p.m. Shaker Heights police have charged a Maple Heights man with aggravated murder in connection with the strangulation death of Sharon Anderson-Norfus on May 4, according to Shaker Heights Police Chief D. Scott Lee and Chief Prosecutor C. Randolph Keller.  William D. Hammons, 20, is in Shaker Heights police custody and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 15 at 10 a.m. in Shaker Heights Municipal Court. “We’ve got sufficient cause for bringing charges against Mr. Hammons, but we’re going to continue this investigation and be as complete and thorough as possible,” Lee said. “We don’t want to get into the nuances of the investigation, but what I think is important is that we’ve clearly identified an individual who is …

Eastside Suburbs Granted $50,000 for Joint Dispatch Study

Beachwood, Shaker Heights among communities to study feasibility of regional dispatch center

Beachwood and Shaker Heights are among five communities that will use a $50,000 grant from the state to study the feasibility of a regional dispatch center. The Ohio Local Government Innovation Council approved more than $3.4 million in grants and $2.9 million in loans to 51 projects across the state today. The new program encourages collaboration and creative, new ideas to help communities save money on services. "Teamwork leads to great successes. Today's investments foster collaboration that will ensure valuable services are delivered, while overcoming financial issues that plague many local communities," said Christiane Schmenk, Director of the Ohio Department of Development in a press release.
