Beachwood Woman Defrauds Medicaid of $80,000

Joyce Balin Fried was banned from providing Medicaid in 2010, but now investigators say she got around the system to defraud Medicaid of over $80,0000

A Beachwood woman was convicted of defrauding Medicaid for the second time after she used her son’s name to contract with the medical care provider, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Joyce Balin Fried and her son Harold Fantl stole $83,731 from Medicaid. As part of their sentencing, they have reimbursed Medicaid, plus paid just over $9,000 to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for investigative costs. Fried was convicted in 2010 of billing Medicaid for hearing aid batteries that she did not give to her patients. She was sentenced to pay the state back $35,000 and the government revoked her Medicaid agreement. Menorah Park Among Delegation to White House

20 representatives from senior care facilities, senior advocacy groups across the country will fight Medicare and Medicaid cuts before White House officials

Representatives from Menorah Park and about 20 other nursing homes around the country have been invited to the White House next week to discuss possible Medicare and Medicaid cuts. Menorah Park Administrator Richard Schwalberg has been to D.C. twice already to talk about the cuts, said Menorah Park spokesperson Beth Silver, but this is the first invitation. Menorah Parks receives about 75 percent of its funding from Medicare and Medicaid, said Schwalberg. Schwalberg gathered this delegation from other not-for-proft and faith-based senior care providers and from associations such as the Association of Jewish Aging Services of North America, Jewish Federations and Leading Age. Sun Press: Menorah Park in Beachwood May Lose $4.4 Million From Its Budget Over Next Two Years

Senior living center stands to lose 14 percent of budget if Kasich's plan passes

A large Beachwood employer would have to cut its staff if Gov. John Kasich's budget plan passes, the Sun Press reports. Leaders from Menorah Park Senior Living Center in Beachwood testified to the Ohio House Finance Subcommittee on Health and Human Services that their services could suffer under the Medicaid cuts in Kasich's plan.
