Happy New Year from Patch!

It's a new year, and time for new resolutions

Happy New Year! Can you believe it's already 2012? With each new year, many of us out there make new resolutions. Some may argue that you don't need a certain day of the year to decide to make a change, but what better day than today? It's a fresh start right? We want to know what your resolution(s) is/are. Did you decide that it's time to join a gym? Maybe you want to try a new food? Or maybe you want to stay in contact with your family better? Whatever it is, we want to know, so please share with us in the comments section. I'm my own biggest critic and I need to quit sweating the small stuff…

Our children are the fifth generation to live on our farm. We have family for neighbors, space to roam. Who gets to enjoy that kind of heritage?   Ah. The children of the Dominican Republic. Maybe that’s why I fell in love. Families live simply: eating together, playing dominoes, talking. Most folks live all their lives in the village they were born in and have no desire to be elsewhere.   I love my home. Why then, taking in the beauty of this vastly different place, did I feel that I could just stay? Perhaps it’s because I couldn’t go back. I would never be the …

Families Prepared and Will Deliver Hot Meals to Police Officers, Firefighters Working Thanksgiving

Families from Aish HaTorah prepared dinner for local departments

While many will soon sit down and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with their families, some local police officers and firefighters are working. Channah Appel wanted to thank them for their service and make sure they could celebrate the holiday, too. She rounded up families from Aish HaTorah, an international organization based in Jerusalem and an adult and family Jewish Education program, and asked them to help prepare traditional Thanksgiving dishes and deliver them to the Cleveland Heights Police Department and the Beachwood and University Heights fire departments. “We thought it would be a great way to build our community of volunteers of parents and kids. There are so few opportunities for families to spend time together volunteering,” Appel…

Could you add a page with holiday craft fairs that are on the west side, especially if there are any in Avon Lake? I seem to remember one at the high school the past few years. Thanks!   more ›

Cheap Date: Holiday Taste Fair at Mustard Seed Market

Eating enough samples qualifies as a meal, right? Head to the Solon or Montrose location Saturday to get your fill on Thanksgiving food for free.

Thanks for checking out our new feature. Every Friday, we will suggest one event or activity to do on the weekend that won't break the bank. Introducing Cheap Date. You remember when you were little and you would accompany your parents to the grocery store? Invite your special someone to accompany you Saturday to the Mustard Seed Market's Holiday Taste Fair where you can relive that nostalgia and load up on sample after sample of Thanksgiving staples. Plus, there's no guilt involved with these samples; you can try everything. In …
