Police Chief accepting proposals for a new firing range
Beachwood City Council voted to allow Police Chief Mark Sechrist to advertise for proposals for a new firing range. Sechrist expects the range, which he hopes to put in the now-vacant former Services Building behind City Hall, to cost $650,000 to $700,000 to build, according to minutes from a March 28 Safety and Public Health Committee meeting. Sechrist said the department’s firing range, located inside the police department, is outdated and small, and officers cannot be certified on their rifles there. The requirements for the proposal include that the range should meet or exceed government regulatory standards, should be completed in about six months and should be large enough for a SWAT armored truck and police cruisers to fit inside. …
James A. Doutt worked in economic development for EBO Group, Medina County
Beachwood City Council will vote on appointing an economic development director at tonight's meeting. James A. Doutt has worked for the EBO Group in business development and human resources and served as executive director of the Medina County Economic Development Corporation for ten years. He has also served as the President of the Ohio Economic Devopment Council and has 16 years of experience in marketing. Brad Sellers has served as an interim economic development director in the city since May 2011. An economic development study conducted by the city recommended a permanant director and economic development department. Facility would be built in former Service Center near City Hall, Police Department
The City of Beachwood Police Department is seeking to replace the firing range in the police station. Chief Mark Sechrist said the department will brief the Beachwood Safety and Public Health Committee at their meeting next week on their proposal to build a new range in the now-vacant former Services Building behind City Hall. The Service Department moved to a new warehouse in Commerce Park last year. Sechrist said the department’s firing range, located inside the police department, is outdated and small. The officers cannot be certified on rifles in that range – only handguns – and the amount of lead has become a problem, calling for more upkeep for the range and protective suits for the shooters.
