Union contract limits number of EMTs employed in the department
The Beachwood City Council approved an amendment to the city firefighters’ union contract to limit the number of employees with EMT certification who can work in the department. The EMT certification licenses its holder to perform fewer procedures than the paramedic certification. All but one firefighter in the Beachwood force has a paramedic license. The amendment allows three EMTs to work in the department, and for only one EMT to work during any one shift. The International Association of Firefighters Local 2388 came to a three-year labor agreement with the city of Beachwood last November. The amendment passed unanimously.

Fire department distributing free rust-removing laundry detergent
Beachwood residents could see cloudy tap water as the fire department continues fire hydrant maintenance through Friday. Fire hydrants around Beachwood will be flushed for the rest of the week. Residents who see rust in their water should run cold water – not hot – for about 10 minutes, until the water runs clear. If the rust gets into your laundry, stop by Fire Station 1 on Richmond Road for free rust-removing laundry detergent. The lobby is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
