Updated: Friends of Slain Beachwood Nurse Organize Awareness Walk

The walk and balloon launch is set for May 12, 2013 at 3 p.m.

Friends of the slain Beachwood nurse have organized an awareness walk and balloon launch for this Sunday, May 12. The walk to remember her is set for 3 p.m. and friends and supporters are asked to meet on Penshurst Drive across the street from Hilltop Elementary School. It will conclude at the Cleveland Clinic on Cedar Road. Strollers and pets are welcome. It has been six weeks since the fatal stabbing of Beachwood nurse Aliza Sherman in downtown Cleveland. In that time, Crime Stoppers has offered a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of her killer. The Cleveland Police Department have posted a security camera video that shows someone fleeing from the crime scene and asked for help identifying the person…

Forrest the Dog's Popularity, Animal Rights Activism Growing on Facebook Page

In just a short amount of time, Forrest the dog has more than 1,200 followers.

Ever stop and wonder about what dogs could say if they could talk?  Solon resident Robin Stone, who recently took in the dog who was shot and left chained to a tree in Cleveland Heights, gives Forrest a voice through his own Facebook page.  Ramone Clements, the man accused of shooting a dog and leaving him for dead in Forest Hill Park, was charged with having ammunition as a felon on Wednesday and arrested Thursday.  But charges related to the alleged crime against the dog — including an animal cruelty charge — were dropped by local courts. While this extends the sentence Clements faces if found guilty, Stone has said that it unjustly takes Forrest out of the proceedings. Stone, who is an animal rights activist with her partner Patti …

Do You Manage a Local Facebook Page? Patch Wants to Talk to You!

Community Editor Amanda Harnocz wants to interview the people behind the pages everyone in Beachwood 'likes.'

Do you operate a Facebook page for a local organization, group, business or school in your community? Then I want to talk to you.  But first, a quick introduction. I'm Amanda Harnocz, a community editor for Patch. I'm a Facebook and general social media junkie and recently I was put in charge of managing social media sites for many of the Ohio Patch sites, including Beachwood's. (I know, lucky me! Right?) I'd click "like" on that sentence if I could ...  Anyway, I want to do more than share your information on our Patch Facebook pages, I want to feature the person behind that page. I want to talk the operator about why the page was started, how your audience is growing and what types of things you like to post.  I plan on doing several …

Facebook Offers Midnight Message Delivery on New Year's Eve

Because kissing at the stroke of midnight is so last New Year's Eve.

Do you plan ahead? Listen up then, because Facebook is offering a new feature for New Year's Eve.  Instead of clogging up the phone lines with mass texts and calls, schedule your good wishes ahead of time.  Whether it's from near or far, you can wish any of your Facebook friends a Happy New Year at midnight in a personal message. Whether friends from Beachwood and Solon want to swap messages or someone from Brecksville wants to wish someone a Happy New Year in New Jersey, it can be arranged.  Facebook is now offering a service that will deliver a private message to any of your friends that will appear in their inbox at midnight Jan. 1.  To get started, click here. You can even add a photo to the message.  It's sort of like sending a …
