No. 3 Top Story of 2012: Chardon Victim was Grandson of BMS Wrestling Coach

Daniel Parmertor was killed in a shooting at Chardon High School. He was the grandson of Beachwood's Domenick Iammarino.

While most in the region were affected by the shooting at Chardon High School earlier this year, the tragedy hit very close to home for a Beachwood Middle School coach. Domenick Iammarino, the school's wrestling coach, was the grandfather of Daniel Parmertor, 16, who was killed during the shooting. Read the No. 3 most-read story of the year: Chardon Shooting Victim Confirmed as Grandson of BMS Wrestling Coach After the shooting, Superintendent Rich Markwardt sent an email to Beachwood City Schools staff, coaches and alumni to share the tragic news of Iammarino's connection. "He’s been in Beachwood longer than an other teacher and everyone knows Coach 'I,'" said Athletic Director Ryan Peters. "It’s a very tragic day throughout the country …

Local Fund Offers Outlet to Support Chardon Victim's Grandfather

Beachwood wrestling scholarship fund a way to support Parmertor's family

Those in the Beachwood Community looking for a way to support Domenick Iammarino have one more outlet to choose from, says one local woman: support his wrestling legacy at Beachwood High School. The Ron Madow Athletic Achievement Award – a memorial scholarship - goes to a graduating wrestler every year and is named after Iammarino’s late friend and assistant coach. Ron’s widow Stacie said that donors can give in Iammarino’s name to honor him and help support the program Iammarino started nearly half a decade ago. “That’s his whole 40-some years that he’s been at Beachwood.” Iammarino’s grandson Daniel Parmertor died last week in a shooting at Chardon High School. Iammarino is still a wrestling coach at Beachwood Middle School and an …

Could Someone Like Beachwood's Coach Have Helped Chardon Shooter?

Beachwood's longtime "Coach I," whose grandson was a victim of the Chardon shooter, is a mentor to so many. Could a role model like him have helped TJ Lane?

I had not thought about Dom Iammarino, my Beachwood High School General Business teacher, in a long time. I was not the kind of student who kept in touch. I barely kept in touch when I was actually attending Beachwood 30 years ago. I moved away. I have probably written 10,000 checks since Mr. Iammarino - "Coach I" to pretty much everyone at the school, especially his wrestling team - taught us how to fill out the "pay to the order to" section. Come to think of it, I should have thought of Coach I every time I paid a bill. I have been thinking about Coach I since Monday, when I found out his 16-year-old grandson was the first to die in the shooting at Chardon High School. A school shooting is an unspeakable tragedy, anytime and anywhere. …

Beachwood Wrestling Team Opens Season in Search of Team Title at State

Four Bison win trophies at Bison Kickoff Classic

Although renovations at Beachwood High School have forced several of the South Gym’s historic athletic pictures to be removed from its walls, several that remain bear witness to the success of Bison wrestling. About seven of the school’s 14 state champions hang there now, many of them in crisp black-and-white with David Cassidy-like long hair from a past time. And while Beachwood has produced recent champions, one photo is missing – that of a state team champion. As Beachwood opened its season by hosting the Bison Kickoff Classic on Saturday, sophomores Sam Gross and Ryan Harris grappled not only with their opponents but also with that deeper historical sense of things undone. Gross (113 pounds), Harris (138), senior Aaron Friedman (120) …
