Check out our slideshow and customize the city website to your needs
The City of Beachwood’s website’s got a new look. City Council contracted CivicPlus for $44,000 last August to create a new website as part of the city’s economic development efforts. Though it’s not necessary to create an account to use it, the customizable site allows users to log in for quicker access to the pages that they use most. Like any new website, using it for the first time can be a little daunting, so I created my account and put together a few things I learned to make it easier for you to create yours. Click through the photo gallery above to read our tips, and — since I'm new at this, too — add your own tips in the comments! Open a new tab on your browser and go to BeachwoodOhio.com to get started. The new website was part …

The resolution will go to Council after it was approved by Planning & Zoning Thursday.
Aloft hotel site developers will seek Beachwood City Council approval on two measures that will make way for a new restaurant next door. Beachwood Boutique Hotel, LLC., the corporation founded by Scott Berkowitz for the development of the Aloft hotel site in Beachwood's Chagrin Highlands, garnered Planning & Zoning approval to split their Chagrin Highlands site for a restaurant. Berkowitz is mum about what restaurant will be there, but he said that he is in discussion with a strong candidate. Another measure asked for a variance so that the restaurant's lot can be about 2,900 square feet smaller than what is required by Beachwood's zoning code. The measures are expected to be read to Council at their March 18 meeting. Planning member Craig…

Beachwood's economic development director doesn't want to miss out on tenants, but needs a plan from the mall
Beachwood officials heard a statement earlier this month that they hope will not be repeated in the future. Jim Heller of Cleveland-based ka architects said that the city had already missed out on four retailers "you would have loved to have had here" at a work session regarding an expansion plan for Beachwood Place Mall. Beachwood Economic Development Director Jim Doutt said he was disappointed to hear that, but the city still awaits an expansion plan from the mall's parent company, General Growth Properties in Chicago. Heller encouraged the city to make zoning modifications for a 5.6-acre section of Richmond Road now owned by GGP, though the company had no plan to present. "There's nothing that's been proposed, that's the bottom line," …
