The city's economic development team will survey Israel's landscape and identify opportunities for economic development
Though Jim Doutt's presentation on building an incentive framework for businesses didn't center on Israel, the country played a large role in it. As Beachwood attempts to recruit more businesses and spur economic development, Doutt, the city's economic development director, said firms in Israel should be among the community's targets. "Israel is a logical thing for Beachwood to look at," Doutt said. "There's a long-term, longstanding, discernible cultural connection between Beachwood and Israel." A presentation from the city's economic development director laid out ideas on how the city could attract more businesses
Beachwood wanted to attract more businesses for years, and now officials have a plan to achieve that goal. Economic Development Director Jim Doutt gave other city officials a presentation Monday on the types of firms they should target, how they should go about doing so and the selling points for their city. "It just makes so much common sense to build this framework because it can be used as an economic development springboard for this community for years to come," Doutt said. Proposed changes to zoning code would regulate changeable copy signs
Electronic signs in Beachwood could be more strictly regulated if an amendment to the zoning code passes through council. Councilman Brian Linick said that the issue sprouted from a new electronic sign at the Dollar Bank at Chagrin Boulevard and Interstate 271. “I was really surprised that we permit that in our zoning code,” he said. “I think we need to be much stricter for what we permit.” The zoning code as written allows "changeable copy" signs but does not regulate them, said City Planner George Smerigan. “They’re becoming more and more popular,” he said, “and the city just wanted to get some sort of a provision in the code that would establish criteria or standards.” The proposed code would regulate how long messages should be …
