Beachwood Agrees to Contract for Traffic Signal Service

Signal Service Co. of Warrensville Heights will service and maintain lights at 40 intersections throughout the city

Beachwood has contracted with a Warrensville Heights company to monitor and service traffic lights in the city for 2013. The city will pay Signal Service Co. $3,400 for monitor testing and regular maintenance of lights at 40 intersections in Beachwood. Each intersection will cost the city an anticipated $85. The contract also accounts for flashing school lights, bulbs and any equipment associated with traffic controllers. Signal Service would be called on to repair signals damaged as a result of inclement weather, vandalism, accidents or malfunction. The contract mandates that the company be available 24 hours, seven days a week and on holidays. Services will be compensated at a $55-per-hour rate during and regular and non-regular working …

Register for Beachwood's New Emergency Notification System

CodeRED allows Beachwood officials to deliver important messages

Beachwood is using a new method of disseminating important messages and emergencies to its residents. Police Chief Mark Sechrist announced Monday that the city would be using CodeRed, a high-speed notification technology that leverages the city's database to send out mass messages and emergency updates when appropriate. CodeRED replaces reverse 911. The city is encouraging residents and businesses to verify and/or update the city's database with their current information. UPDATED: Beachwood Police Assist Orange Village PD in Shooting

Beachwood Police helped respond to a shooting in Orange Village this morning.

Beachwood Police have confirmed assisting the Orange Village Police Department this morning in a hotel shooting. Fox 8 reported that a gunman opened fire at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel on Orange Place. A WKYC report indicates that a woman was struck. Though Beachwood Police confirmed aiding an arrest, the department referred any further questions to Orange Village Police Chief Christopher Kostura. A message for Kostura has not yet been returned. The Fox report states that dozens of officers searched for the gunman, who was found after running behind the Fairfield Inn. Reports state that some hotels on Orange Place are under lockdown, but a supervisor at Fairfield Inn said that hotel is not one of them. 11:50 a.m. - Courtyard Marriott …

She saw police surrounding buildiing and told me when she came back 2 room, and Fairfield is saying we weren't on lockdown? Sunglasses shoplifted from mall Friday, Oct. 26, 9:48 p.m. — A man was arrested and charged with shoplifting a pair of sunglasses valued at $289.95 from the Sunglass Hut. Juvenile charged with shoplifting Saturday, Oct. 27, 7:14 p.m. — A juvenile was arrested and charged with shoplifting $235 of clothes from Next Urban Gear in Nordstrom. Beachwood 100 to Award First Responders' Kids

Local nonprofit to present scholarships to four recent high school graduates whose parents are Beachwood police or firefighters

The Beachwood 100 will hold a ceremony to honor the children of four Beachwood Police and Fire personnel with college scholarships. Established in 1969, the Beachwood 100 is a nonprofit organization that works to help the families of Beachwood first responders. The organization's dues are donated or loaned to the families during personal emergencies. The group is not affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police and no city employees or elected officials may sit on its board. The ceremony will be held tonight - Thursday, June 21 - at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall's Council Chambers.

Great to hear, Joseph! I include every home burglary, and fortunately, we don't see a lot of them in Beachwood. And you bring up a good point! Perhaps I'll put together an interactive map of the burglaries in the past year so readers can see exactly how many there have been and where.
