Eight Inches of Snow Possible Through Friday

Beachwood could see accumulation from lake-effect snow through Friday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake-effect snow warning for Cuyahoga County, including Beachwood, until noon Friday. Snow will intensify through Thursday afternoon and overnight, with accumulations of four to eight inches possible by midday on Friday. Winds will be coming out of the west from 10-20 MPH with gusts up to 30 MPH possible. Temperatures will be in the low 20s with highs around 30 degrees.

Strongsville Teachers Picket Board Member's Beachwood Workplace

Teachers started picketing outside a local business where a Strongsville board member works.

Striking Strongsville teachers tried a new tactic Tuesday, sending protesters to the workplace of School Board member Carl Naso in Beachwood. Naso said about 40 union supporters, some carrying signs with his employer's phone number, walked and yelled in front of his office from about 3 to 6 p.m. "They shouted and bullied my coworkers as they went in and out of the building," Naso said. "And they shouted insults about me." But he was more upset that about 50 members of the Strongsville Education Association, which represents the striking teachers, also gathered in front of his home at the same time. "They knew I was still at work, and they still sent people to my house," Naso said. "They knew only my wife and daughter were home." SEA …

FOXSportsOhio.com to Air Bisons Basketball Game

Beachwood's game against Richmond Heights will be covered by FOXSportsOhio.com on Jan. 5.

Beachwood Bisons' boy basketball players will get their chance to shine in front of a big audience. FOXSportsOhio.com announced Beachwood's home game against Richmond Heights will be broadcasted on the website on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 4 p.m., according to a press release. The website streams live high school boys basketball as part of its Fox Sports Prep Zone and will feature multi-camera production teams that will visit schools and game coverage that includes on-site announcers, replays and graphics. In addition to streaming live games from around the state of Ohio, FOXSportsOhio.com’s Prep Zone page also features regular recruiting reports, game previews, and more.

Top Story of 2012: Cleveland RTA Driver Hits Woman, Video Taken in Beachwood

A viral video of a bus driver punching a passenger on an RTA bus was Beachwood's biggest story of the year.

One of the biggest hits locally this year wasn't in the box office, it was on an RTA bus in Beachwood. On October 11 a video of a bus driver punching a passenger on an RTA bus went viral online is from an incident in Beachwood. Warning: Video contains graphic scenes and strong language. The video, first posted on the website WorldStarHipHop.com Oct. 11, has since been viewed nearly 17 million times there and reportings on YouTube have been viewed over 375,000 times. In the shaky, graphic video, a woman, Shidea Lane, 25, is seen standing at the front of the bus arguing with the driver, Artis Hughes, 59. The two threaten each other and the woman approaches the driver, possibly striking him. Hughes has been an employee of RTA for 22 years. …

Donald Arnold. “We started to get shot at very heavily, and I jumped on the hood of a Jeep and hollered for somebody to drive it to go to the wounded men.” He spoke slowly. “And I thought, well, with the red cross on my helmet, they wouldn’t shoot at me. Beachwood High School's American Sign Language Club and ASL foreign language classes hosted the 8th Annual ASL Club Holiday Party.

Hundreds packed the Beachwood High School gym Tuesday for the 8th Annual ASL Club Holiday Party. Each year the school's American Sign Language (ASL) and foreign language clubs host a huge gathering for the deaf and hard-of-hearing members of Northeast Ohio. Not only is it an opportunity for friends to reconnect, but it also gives students a chance to practice their sign language skills for a good cause.
