Contractors Begin Fire Station Remediation

The project should be complete by March 15

Contractors began the remediation of  Fire Station No. 1 this month, staying in line with city officials' desire to have the project completed by mid-March.  Building Commissioner William Griswold told City Council a week ago that Panzica Construction of Mayfield Village began work in the second week of January, removing caulk and replacing window seals on the fire station's west side. VIDEO: Quietly Remembering 9/11 at Beachwood Fire Station No. 1

Patch ran into a resident at the 9/11 memorial Sunday bringing cookies to Beachwood firefighters, and she shared her touching story

A few people had gathered in the lobby of the city's main fire station. Their conversations were muted. The center of attention was a portion of a burned piece of metal, a section of the girders that seemed to lift the Twin Towers to the bottom of the sky. A woman and her two children came to the door. The family donated cookies and sandwiches to the firehouse. When Fire Chief Patrick Kearns asked who should get the thank you note, the woman said, "Nobody." She wouldn't leave her name. She wouldn't share her city. But she shared the story about her way of remembering 9/11.
