The Bison stole the show at the Massillon Jackson Play 4 Cancer Shootout, going into Tiger territory and knocking off Massillon Washington 66-47 to improve to 4-0. “It was a significant win for this team,” Beachwood coach Jason Pecjak said. “With the stage that it was on, the event and everything, I compared it to a tournament-type atmosphere. Our kids answered the bell and were ready for the challenge.” Trey Saunders led the team with 16 points, while John Davis III added 14. Editor's note: This story was updated at 9:55 a.m. Just when Independence scored six unanswered points to cut Beachwood’s lead down to eight, the Bison closed the third quarter with a bucket and responded with a 13-5 run, taking a 16-point lead and never looking back in a 71-56 victory over the Blue Devils on Wednesday. Then on Thursday night, the Bison went into Wickliffe and won 68-51 to improve to 3-0. The Bison opened their season with a 67-57 win on Dec. 1 against rival Orange. Freshman Ronald Jones had a solid debut with 11 points and eight rebounds. “I was happy with the way he played,” Beachwood coach Jason Pecjak said. “In that kind of atmosphere, with a packed house and a rivalry game, you just didn’t know what to expect. He just really answered the bell with eight points in the first half. An influx of young talent could have Beachwood boys basketball in position to make deep tournament runs for the next few seasons, headlined by one of the state’s top freshmen 6-foot-3 forward Ronald Jones. Jones and fellow freshmen Jalen Davis and Dassan Rhodes were focal points on their middle school teams that went a combined 33-0 in seventh and eighth grade. Davis will split time between varsity and JV while Rhodes could work his way onto varsity some point in the season. Jalen’s older brother, junior John Davis III, will continue be the focal point of the Bison. Davis is getting a lot of Division I looks and was critical to Beachwood’s 14-9 season that ended in a 69-67 double overtime loss against St. Peter Chanel in the Bison’s first …
