Restaurants like the high school student-run Beachwood Bistro, Fleming's Steakhouse, Maggiano's, Mitchell's Fish Market, Old Carolina BBQ, Paladar, Stir Crazy, BJ's, Chop-It Salad, Contempo Cuisine and more will serve up their finest fare. The Beachwood Convention and Visitors Bureau will launch Oct. 1, Director Wayne Lawrence told the Economic Development Committee today. The first of its kind in Cuyahoga County, the Beachwood CVB will be one of a few organizations in the state that support travel and tourism for just one city. Most CVBs are county or regional efforts. The Beachwood Economic Development Committee got a sneak peek at the CVB's marketing plan and website Monday night. The CVB will begin chasing leads, targeting religious, sports, educational and medical conventions, next week, said Lawrence. "It's time for us to go and get business," he added. CVB approved at Monday's Council meeting
The Beachwood Area Chamber of Commerce got the green light to start a Beachwood Convention and Visitors Bureau at Monday’s City Council meeting, as long as a board is in place to oversee it. The vote was stalled last meeting when Councilman Brian Linick voted against allowing a final reading. He said that he would like the city’s newly appointed economic development director, James Doutt, to consider the measure. Doutt spoke in favor of the $65,000 proposal Monday, adding that he supports paying for it out of his budget it as long as a third-party board is appointed to ensure accountability. The board, made up of seven members including Doutt, another city official and two Chamber representatives, will develop specific criteria for the CVB…

Special meeting scheduled for Feb. 13
Beachwood City Council will hear a proposal for a visitors and convention bureau at a special meeting called for Feb. 13. An economic development study conducted by SZD Whiteboard last year concluded that such a bureau would help the city attract new businesses and residents. The Beachwood Area Chamber of Commerce will present the plan. Council will also hear more about Cuyahoga County’s anti-poaching protocol, which SZD also recommended the city participate in. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
