Serial Bank Robbers Sentenced In Federal Court

Charles Compton and Dwayne McDaniel were convicted of robbing banks in Mentor, Twinsburg, Beachwood and more

Two men who pleaded guilty to robbing banks in Mentor, Beachwood, Twinsburg and other communities throughout Northeast Ohio were sentenced recently in Ohio Northern District Federal Court. Charles Compton, 31, of Euclid, admitted to 14 counts of bank robbery and was sentenced to spend 10 1/2 years in federal prison. His codefendant, Dwayne McDaniel, 35, of Maple Heights, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of bank robbery and will spend the next 12 1/3 years in prison. The two were arrested after they robbed the Key Bank in Twinsburg this March. A witness spotted them leaving in a white car and followed them, police said. FirstMerit Bank Robbery May Be Part of Serial Crimes

FBI suspects a serial bank robber in eastern Cuyahoga, western Lake Counties; surveillance photos released

The FBI suspects a serial bank robber has been hitting institutions on this side of Cuyahoga County and western Lake County for at least a month. Spokesperson Scott Wilson said that the man who robbed Beachwood’s FirstMerit Bank Friday may have been involved in the June 7 robbery of the same bank and other robberies in Lyndhurst, Willoughby and Willoughby Hills. The suspect is a 6-foot-tall black man. Witnesses said he showed a black handgun and demanded money during Friday’s robbery. The FBI asks that anyone with information about the incidents call Beachwood Police at 216-464-1234 or the FBI at 216-522-1400.

UPDATE: Beachwood Bank Robbery Suspect Sought

Police searching for suspect who stole over $1,300

10:27 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18: No arrests have been made. Beachwood Police confirmed that no one was injured in the incident, which is still under investigation. --- A man robbed a bank in Beachwood, escaping with over $1,300, according to the Beachwood Police. The man passed a note to the teller at Charter One Bank, 3401 Richmond Road, at 3:09 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12. He told the teller he had a weapon but did not show one. He left the bank with $1,333. The man is described as a black male in his 30s and over 6 feet tall. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the robbery. No further information was released Friday night. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 216-522-1400 or the Beachwood Police Department at 216-464-1234.
