Planning and Zoning will review ordinances that would allow apartment at Green Road and Chagrin Boulevard
Beachwood City Council referred to the Planning and Zoning Commission ordinances that would allow an apartment building to be built at Green Road and Chagrin Boulevard at Tuesday's meeting. Council tabled measures last month that would change the zoning of the parcel to one that would allow the apartments. Two ordinances — one to create a zoning district for planned multi-family development and one to change this parcel to that zoning — were put before council to refer to the Planning and Zoning Commission. After P&Z’s review and if the commission recommends it to council, council members will read it twice more and hold a public hearing, then take a final vote.

Smerigan said that the plans are consistent with the Commerce Park report his company conducted for the city earlier this year. The property sold for $4.1 million in September to The NRP Group, LLC and Munsell Realty Advisors, LLC. City Planner George Smerigan said the buildings will be torn down to make room for the new apartments if the legislation passes. Tenants from those…

Mr. Silver, thank you for your comment. If Beachwood wanted to undertake a complete review of the Commerce Park zoning then it should do so and it should not be driven by a one-off zoning change proposal for one residential project. I am all in favor of a new comprehensive look at Beachwood's Master Plan if that's what the community favors.   more ›
