Fast Start Leads Beachwood to Win Over Spartans

Lady Bison beat Richmond Heights 67-46

Submitted by BeachwoodBison.org: Beachwood coach Mike Coreno wasn’t sure how his team would respond after its first close game of the season. It didn’t take long for him to find out as the Bison scored the first 10 points of the game and cruised to a 67-46 win over visiting Richmond Heights on Friday.  The Bison (4-0, 3-0 in the Chagrin Valley Conference) beat Hawken, 44-40, on Tuesday, then got off to a fast start against the Spartans and never looked back in collecting their third straight conference victory and fourth straight overall. “I’m proud of the way the kids bounced back from a close game against Hawken,” Coreno said. “You always worry about how much energy you expend in a close game and how you come out the next time. Aldridge Scores 21, Bison Beat Hawks

BeachwoodBison.org recaps Tuesday's girls basketball win

After cruising to its first two victories, Beachwood’s girls’ basketball team was pushed until the final whistle in a 44-40 victory over Hawken on Tuesday. Beachwood Girls' Basketball Team Opens Season With Victory

New coach Jones seeks to put team's past controversies in rear-view mirror

New Beachwood High School girls’ basketball coach Darren Jones knows there will be more than a few eyes on him this season. Burke’s Lady Bison went 19-5 last season, but coach Melvin Burke breached district policy by soliciting donations without administrator permission and was not brought back. Some might continue to dwell on the decision made this past May, but Jones won’t be one of them. To his way of thinking, he’s a got a basketball team to run, and the Lady Bison’s 2011-2012 campaign got off to a fast start with a commanding 51-35 season-opening victory at Wickliffe on Friday night. “I’m coming into a new season. Whatever happened last year, I just kind of shut the door on all of that stuff. I tried to focus on the new stuff. If you …
