Davis III adjusting to status as one area's top players
Beachwood point guard John Davis III has got a lot of nerve doffing a Pittsburgh Steelers baseball cap in the Greater Cleveland area, especially after the Browns lost to them for the 15th time in the last 16 games Thursday night. But if you look closely, the Bison and the Steelers share a similar sense of design that an initial flash of anger might obscure upon seeing the “black and gold” sported so proudly. As you might imagine, Davis has a quick explanation. “It’s just for the colors,” Davis said, “not the team.” Besides, after Beachwood (1-1, 1-0 Chagrin Valley Conference Metro Division) trounced Independence (1-2, 0-1), 81-49, on Saturday night at the South Gym, a fashion faux-pas, no matter how clever or well-intentioned, is easily …

Bison special teams generates halftime momentum
Two special teams plays gave Beachwood High School (6-1) all the momentum going into the half and the Bison used it to chew up the clock, dominating the ball for 17:49 in the second half and sealing up a 41-13 win over Berkshire (2-5). “Those were very good momentum builders going into halftime,” Beachwood coach Ryan Williams said. “The kickoff return came off of an interception that was almost returned for a touchdown. We needed to get something going.” With Beachwood up 14-0, Berkshire quarterback Erick Burzanko hit Ben Blechschmid on a 15-yard slant route for a touchdown, cutting the Bison lead down to 14-6 and seemingly injecting new life into the Badgers. Beachwood’s Corey Jones answered on the next play with an 85-yard kickoff return…

Turnovers doom Spartans as Beachwood scores 35 in the first quarter
Five touchdowns, a blocked punt, a safety and two Richmond Heights fumbles led to 35 points in the first quarter alone as Beachwood eased past the Spartans 49-20 on Homecoming. The Bison continue their strong start to a promising season, improving to 3-1. “We had a lot of unforced errors that killed us in that first quarter,” Richmond Heights head coach William Cloud said. “Our kids got frustrated in the first half so we had to regroup. We reduced the errors and played strong in the second half.” Beachwood took the opening kick and immediately marched down to Richmond Heights’ 17-yard line thanks to a 12-yard run by Ari Sobel and a 26-yard pass from Alex Hohl to Howard Sobel. Howard Sobel finished the drive on a 15-yard touchdown run …
