HB sophomore wins concerto competition

Grace Yi, a 10th-grader at Hathaway Brown, won the highest award in the annual Akron Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. She will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, 1st movement, with the AYS on Sunday, May 22 at 3 pm. The concert is free and open to the public.

Jewish Federation seeks school volunteers

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland needs volunteers to help the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Volunteers are needed for one hour per week as reading tutors. Call Suburban Temple - Kol Ami at 216-991-0700 or the Jewish Federation at 216-593-2900.

Rabbi nominated as leader of national group

Rabbi Richard A. Block of the Temple-Tifereth Israel was nominated president-elect of the Central Conference of American Rabbis for a two-year term beginning in March. That term will be followd by a two-year term as president of the CCAR beginning in March 2013.

Amber Bogard named athlete of the week

Beachwood High School senior Amber Bogard was named last week's Bison athlete of the week. She helped lead the Lady Bisons to wins over John F. Kennedy High School and Independence last week. She recently signed a national letter of intent to attend Eastern Michigan University.

Cheerleaders raise money for Ronald McDonald House

Beachwood cheerleaders raised more than $400 during the boys' varsity basketball game on Jan. 8. The money was donated to the Ronald McDonald House. The cheerleaders ran a 50-50 drawing and raffled off prizes donated by the Cleveland Browns.
