Recap the week in Beachwood Bison basketball

Boys' Basketball

The Beachwood Bison boys' basketball team had a successful week, winning both of their contests. Last Tuesday the Bison traveled to Fairport and handed the Skippers an 88-57 thrashing.

Their eight seniors, led by a 24-point effort out of Andrew Somogyi and a 19-point performance from Jeremiah Townes, went out with a 71-52 win over Wickliffe.

“Having eight seniors is special, I don’t care how big your program is,” coach Pecjak said. “Those kids wanted to leave here with a victory and the were going to do whatever it took to get it.”

Beachwood does not have any more regular season home games. They hit the road Tuesday, Feb. 15 for a showdown against Richmond.

Girls' Basketball

the Beachwood Lady Bison rebounded nicely with a 67-39 route of Hawken. Mercedes Hudson had a monster week with 16 points and 20 rebounds against Lake Ridge. She followed it up with 15 points, six steals and 23 rebounds against Hawken.

Senior Amber Bogard still did not play for the Lady Bison, though Head Coach Melvin Burke expects her back at some point during the year.

“She’s our leader,” Burke said. “Unfortunately, life has to go on and we’re going to stay united. I’m very proud of how they played.”

Beachwood returns home on Tuesday against Independence for a varsity-only game scheduled for 6 p.m.
