Tom Fowler Named Beachwood Girls' Soccer Coach

Fowler is a three-time Lake Erie League Coach of the Year and was named Plain Dealer Coach of the Year in 2008

Beachwood Schools has hired a program builder to be its new high school girls soccer coach.

Former Shaker Heights head coach Tom Fowler will replace Art Skupniewicz, who resigned following the 2012 season, according to BeachwoodBison.org.

Fowler took over as head coach at Shaker Heights in 2004 and in 2008 he led them to the state Final Four. He is a 3-time Lake Erie League Coach of the Year and was named Plain Dealer Coach of the Year in 2008 and the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2007.

“I’m very confident that Tom will be able to build our youth program and work with the middle school program and see the big picture,” Beachwood district director of athletics Ryan Peters told BeachwoodBison.org.

“That’s one of the main reasons I was attracted to Tom. He sees every level. He’s already excited about working with our middle school and youth kids and getting them going.”

Meanwhile, Fowler shared Peters' enthusiasm.

“I’m really excited about it,” he said. “I think any new challenge is always exciting. I love to coach.”

He added that he was excited to get to know the players and set up a program that suits them.

“There’s always a period of experimentation finding out about your players, their abilities and attitudes and fitting an appropriate system of play to the group you have,” he said.
