Chagrin Valley Conference Announces Spring Postseason Awards

Beachwood earns 14 honors on All League and All Academic teams

The Chagrin Valley Conference released its 2011 spring postseason awards today with a total of 14 Beachwood Bison athletes honored.

“I’m very happy for the kids who achieved these honors and the coaches,” Beachwood athletic director Ryan Peters said. “These kids worked very hard for this.”

Four Bison were honored on the All Academic team: Melanie Small for softball, William Wolkoff for track, Andrew Somogyi for baseball and Alex Roth for tennis. To qualify, the athlete must be a senior, at least a two-year letter winner in their sport and have a 3.25 GPA or better.

Ten others were named to All League teams, led by six baseball players. Junior Ryan Moss and senior Josh Schwarz made the first team CVC Metro Division while sophomores Zach Smith and Max Siegel were named second team. Seniors Jake Weiss and Somogyi earned honorable mentions.

Junior Julia Friedman earned Metro Division co-MVP honors at the CVC relays thanks to her first-place finishes in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs while being part of a 4x800-meter relay team that placed second. Beachwood finished second in the boys' and girls' CVC relays.

Sophomores Sammie Jacobs and Hanna Rubenstein earned honorable mentions for softball while junior Dylan Heiser and the doubles team of Jacob Tepper and Roth (both seniors) earned honorable mentions for tennis.
