Bison Face Tough Competition, Conditions At Track Invitational

The Bison girls finished fifth overall while the boys came in 12th place

Beachwood’s track teams faced tough competition at its track invitational on Saturday, as well as some difficult weather conditions that included winds and temperatures that dipped into the high-30’s.

The Bison girls finished fifth overall while the boys came in 12th place, according to BeachwoodBison.org.

“It was a tough day, but it’s a character builder to deal with weather like that,”  Beachwood head coach Willie Smith told the news site. “I’m very, very proud of all our kids.”

The Bison girls finished with a total of 61 points. They were led by senior Gabby Perryman, who scored in four events, and freshman Hannah Kahn and senior Alex DeVaughn, both placed in three each.

Perryman won the triple jump with a leap of 31-feet, 6-inches, finished second in the long jump (15-5) and fifth in the high jump (4-8). She also ran the lead for the 4x100-meter relay team that finished second.

Beachwood’s boys may have finished in 12th place but the Bison had several strong individual performances.

Senior Darrell Sullins, who needed knee surgery after suffering a football injury, finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and sixth in the 200-meter dash.
