Beachwood Rec Offers Cool Summer Programs

Residents can enjoy aquatics, tennis and a walk in the park

Want some hot fun in the summertime? Look no further than the

"We've got a very full summer for the people of Beachwood," said Recreation Supervisor Peter Conces. "We've got over 40 specialty camps and five day camps this year and we're expecting over 550 kids to be invovlved. And we average between 800 and 1,000 people per day at the pool."

The is always a popular attraction and A resident is available for $50 (ages four to adult) with a family pass for four offered at $155 ($20 each additional family member). Daily guest fees are $6 for residents and $10 for non-residents.

Lap swimming is offered Monday throgh Friday from 6:15-8:30 a.m. with open swim following between 12:15-8 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday lap swimming runs from 9-10:45 a.m. with open swim from 11:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Aquatic Center swim classes include a learn to swim program for ages four and up, a synchronized swim club, a water exercise class, the Bison Swim Club summer swim team and a learn to dive program. In addition, the pool is available for birthday parties between 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Beachwood Rec also offers an extensive selection of youth and adult enrichment programs including theater, performing arts, body sculpting, aerobics, Zumba fitness, horseback riding, vocal and guitar lessons and dance classes. Foodgazi cooking classes range from soups to salads to cakes.

The popular adult and youth karate programs are back. Since 1990, Beachwood karate students have won over 70 team awards and over 750 individual trophies and medals.

The tennis program, under the direction of Gregg Goldberg, offers programs from tiny tots to beginner to intermediate and high school levels. Eight tennis courts are open to residents free of charge and complimentary tennis passes are available at the adjacent Aquatics Center. Daily court fees are $4 for non-residents accompanied by a Beachwood resident.

The Beachwood City Park, located on the east and west ends of the Shaker Boulevard median, is an ideal spot for leisurely recreation. Nearly two miles of trails are perfect for bicycling, walking, running and skating. Gravel trails for hiking and an open-air shelter are also available.
