Schools To Consider Chinese, Spanish Classes

Board to vote on offering after-school elementary classes

The will consider measures to allow after-school elementary Chinese and Spanish classes at tonight’s meeting.

Parents asked the Board to consider the classes, and Director of Curriculum and Technology Ken Veon presented information about the programs at the last Board meeting.

If approved, the classes could start as early as Jan. 30. Native and fluent speakers will teach the classes, which will take place twice a week for one hour at each and Elementary Schools. Veon estimated that they would cost $150 per student for 28 to 30 classes.

He added that the classes need an average of about 13 students to pay for themselves. Busing will be provided.

The Board will also swear in and elect a new president and vice president.
