BHS Principal Hardis Appointed to Asst. Superintendent

Robert Hardis begins new job August 1

The Beachwood City Schools  hired Principal Bob Hardis to the district’s assistant superintendent spot at Monday's meeting.

The position , after it was cut last spring in a reorganization that created two lower-paying positions, saving the district about $50,000 annually.

Superintendent Rich Markwardt said that - creating a human resources director and a director of curriculum and technology - in anticipation of new state standards that require the district to use new tools to evaluate teacher performance.

But the state has provided the tools, alleviating the need for a human resources director, so the district has reorganized its top positions again, bringing back the assistant superintendent position.

Hardis’ two-year contract, effective August 1, will include a $120,500 annual salary - about $37,000 more than the human resources director - bringing the district's savings to about $13,000 annually.

But the new assistant superintendent has more responsibility than the position : Hardis will be oversee human resources, curriculum and technology and manage the district's day-to-day business operations.

Markwardt added that the district would begin searching for Hardis' replacement immediately.
