Team finishes best season in 11-year history

The Beachwood High School Robotics Team finished their best year ever Saturday with a sixth-place spot in the Buckeye Regional Robotics Competition, according to a press release.

They competed against 57 teams from Ohio, Canada, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland and beat out all other Northeast Ohio teams with a 7-2 record.

Tony Sapell, a junior, was awarded Driver of the Year.

The team had 45 days to complete the robot and worked three to four hours six days a week to complete it, according to the release.

Out of the 21 students on the team, only one will graduate this year, meaning a more experienced team next year. The team also volunteers at a summer robotics camp run by the Beachwood Recreational Department each summer to foster future generations of robot builders.
