Submitted by BeachwoodBison.org:

Beachwood’s girls’ basketball team is off to its best start in school history with a 16-1 record.

That strong start earned the squad the No. 3 seed in the Division III District Tournament at Saint Joseph Academy in Rocky River. After a first round bye, the Bison open tournament play on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of the Feb. 16 game between Chagrin Valley Conference foes Independence and Kirtland.

Beachwood will be the home team in that game.

The Bison, winners of seven straight games, are 2-0 against Independence this season. Beachwood won 60-50 at home and 45-41 on the road.

Beachwood and Kirtland do not play in the regular season.

Independence is 4-11 this season. The Blue Devils’ top scorers are Halle Dorko (15.1 ppg), Sarah Andexler(11.3 ppg) and Hallie Zumack (8.0 ppg). Dorko’s scoring average ranks her sixth in the CVC.

Kirtland (8-5) leads the CVC Valley Division. Kirtland’s top scorer is Alexa Knezevic with 9.9 points per contest.

With a win, the Bison would move on to the district semifinals. Hawken and Laurel play on Feb. 16 with the winner advancing to face second-seeded Cuyahoga Heights on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The winner of that game moves on to the district semis.

The district championship game will be held on Saturday, March 2 with the winner moving on to the Cuyahoga Falls regional.

Junior Mikah Aldridge leads the Bison with 19.0 points per game. Junior Aneisha Hardin contributes 14.1 ppg and senior Terrina Robinson adds 9.9. Robinson leads the team with 87 rebounds (5.4/game) while Hardin is tops in assists (49) and steals (59).
