Beachwood Culinary Students Bake Up A Winner

Summer Kolt and Ryan dela Vega placed second and third, respectively, during a statewide pastry cakes contest

Beachwood High culinary arts students Summer Kolt and Ryan dela Vega placed second and third, respectively, during the statewide pastry cakes finals at the Ohio Family Career and Community Leaders of America.

The competition was held last week at the Ohio State University in Columbus.

According to Beachwood Schools, Kolt won a $4,000 renewable college scholarship and dela Vega won a $2,000 renewable scholarship.

They study Beachwood's Culinary Arts program, which is part of the Mayfield Excel TECC program that provides work, tech and college preparatory opportunities.

Specifically, the Culinary Arts program offers training that helps students prepare for the Food Service industry.

The curriculum includes experience in everything from large quantity food preparation to menu planning and design.
