Beachwood City Schools Hires New Girls' Basketball Coach
Darren Jones replaces Melvin Burke, whose contract was not renewed because of a district policy infringement
The Beachwood Lady Bison have a new basketball coach after Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
Darren Jones, of Shaker Heights, who coached the Beachwood High School team in the early 2000s, returned to the district after coaching at Lake Erie College and Ursuline College.
His 2012 contract was approved by the Beachwood Board of Education Monday.

“I think I can teach them the correct way to play basketball to play on the college level,” said Jones.
Jones replaces Melvin Burke, last spring after the district said he solicited funds for the team without the district’s permission, breaching district policy.

Burke coached the team for one season.
