Athletic Eligibility Comes to a Vote Tonight

Board of Education to vote on raising academic standards for athletes during Monday meeting

The Beachwood City Schools will vote on a measure to at tonight’s meeting.

The district adheres to OHSAA requirements now, which do not include a GPA requirement and require that students pass at least four classes.

Beachwood City Schools plans to raise the bar above the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s, requiring that students achieve a 2.0 GPA in the preceding quarter and no failing grades.

The proposed standards would allow athletes who raise their grades four weeks after the start of the season to participate.

The agenda also includes measures to eliminate the position of Human Resources Director, held by Michelle Vectirelis, and to create an Assistant Superintendent position.

The human resources director position to handle additional staff development and evaluation responsibilities newly mandated with the passing of Ohio’s budget.

Now, one of the positions that was eliminated with the creation of the human resources director – assistant superintendent – will be re-filled with a new job description.
