Should Beachwood Ban Cell Phones on the Road?

City Council refers ordinance to committee

Beachwood City Council did not vote on whether to pass an ordinance that would prohibit drivers from most uses of cell phones and GPS devices at Monday's meeting.

Chief Mark Sechrist told Council members that the department had waited for Ohio to pass a law restricting cell phone use in the car, but the law in front of the state government now does not go far enough.

prohibits all cell phone use except phone calls made with hands-free headsets and GPS systems using voice commands.

Council referred the ordinance to the health and public safety committee for review. Council will address the ordinance again at the next meeting.
