RTA- Bus Driver Hiring Fair

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is looking for qualified customer service ambassadors to operate RTA buses – known by customers as bus drivers.

On Friday, July 15, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. interested individuals can apply in person for these positions at RTA’s Main Office Building, located at 1240 West Sixth Street, Cleveland, Ohio, 44113. By the end of 2011, RTA hopes to hire at least 50 part-time bus operators (drivers).

What is RTA looking for in new bus operators? When it comes to carrying valued customers around Cuyahoga County, RTA is searching for individuals with excellent interpersonal skills, who can drive safely while being professional, kind and courteous to customers. Operating an RTA bus is much more than justdriving; operators must help customers with questions and route information, as well as collect bus fares, all in a safe and courteous manner. New bus operators in training earn $12.50 per hour, with starting pay at $14.42 per hour. With seniority, an RTA operator can earn up to $24 an hour.

 Here are the minimum qualifications for the position:

  • Two years of customer service experience
  • Five years of driving experience (commercial or non-commercial)
  • An existing State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with passenger and airbrake endorsements OR a temporary CDL Class A or B with passenger and airbrake endorsements with passing scores for the written CDL. Applicants must bring a copy of the CDL or passing written scores with temporary CDL on Friday.
  • A good driving record with no more than two (2) points on license in last three (3) years
  • A high school diploma or GED
