Colorado Shooting Victims: Fly Flag at Half Staff to Honor

President Obama issues proclamation honoring victims

President Barack Obama has issued a proclamation honoring the victims of the shootings in Aurora, CO, and directed flags to be flown at half staff now until sunset, July 25.

“As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on July 20, 2012…I hereby order the flag of the United States be flow at half-staff at the White House, and upon all public buildings,” the proclamation from Obama said.

The president issued the proclamation soon after returning to the White House from Florida, where he addressed the shooting at a previously scheduled campaign event.

"If there was anything to take away from this tragedy it's the reminder that life is very fragile. Our time here is limited and it is precious,” Obama was quoted as saying in The Huffington Post. “What matters at the end of the day is not the small things. It's not the trivial things which so often consume us and our daily lives. Ultimately, it's how we treat one another and how we love one another.”
