The Census data is a massive trove of information, so the plan here is to highlight some interesting facts gleamed from the data.
1. Beachwood is largely white, but diversity is growing.

Beachwood’s population is 77.3 percent white – down over 12 percent from 2000. The Asian population has doubled since 2000 and the black population has grown from 9 percent of the population to over 13.
2. Beachwood’s median age increased slightly; large age divide between whites and blacks, Hispanics and Asians.
The city’s median age, at 51.6 in 2000, has increased to 52.5. The median age for whites is oldest, at 55, trailed closely by the black population at 53.4. The median age for Asians is 33.5 and Hispanic or Latinos’ median age is youngest at 32.5 years.
The largest single population of whites is over 85 years old, followed by those aged 55 to 59.
3. Asians have largest families and whites have smallest.
The average household size for Beachwood’s Asian population is 2.69, and for whites it is 2.09. Blacks’ average household size is 2.4 and Hispanics’ and Latinos is only slightly larger at 2.45.
4. Majority of whites own homes; majority of Asians rent.
Nearly 65 percent of whites in Beachwood own their own homes, and only 39 percent of the Asian populations own their homes. The majority of blacks also own their own homes – 58 percent – and the minority of Hispanic and Latinos do – 45 percent.
