Urine Trouble: Baseball Players Drop Flies in Woman's Yard

Homeowner seeks zoning change to allow privacy fence

One Beachwood woman is tired of catching men with their flies down in her back yard.

A homeowner on Margot Court attended Thursday’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting seeking an exception to a zoning law that would not allow her to build a fence separating the back side of her property from a baseball diamond.

She told the Commission that men playing baseball at the field on Sundays look for a private place to relieve themselves – and find her back yard.

“I like to ‘whoo-hoo’ them to let them know it’s not as private at they thought,” she told the commission.

If a fence does not completely surround a property, the city code prohibits it from being too close to the property line, but the homeowner said that, with her landscaping and trees, there is only one place to put the fence. She tore down an existing fence there, and then found out that the zoning had changed, requiring her to get an exception before rebuilding.

The commission unanimously voted to allow the exception, and Mayor Merle Gorden offered to send an officer out if she sees men in her yard again.
