Beachwood City Councilman Saul Eisen to Return This Month

Eisen, absent for several weeks due to illness, resigns from post as Council President but is expected to take his council seat again at the next meeting.

Beachwood City Councilman Saul Eisen resigned his seat as President in a letter read at Monday's meeting, but added that he expects to take his seat again at the next meeting.

Eisen has been absent from council for about three months. In December, Council created the vice president position and named Councilman Melvin Jacobs to it as a backup for Eisen's absence.

His ailment remains undisclosed.

"Although I am eager to resume participation in City Council, I think I would best serve the City right now as a regular Member of Council rather than as its President. Accordingly, I hereby resign my position as President of City Council," Eisen wrote in the letter to Council and Mayor Merle Gorden.

Council next meets Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Beachwood City Hall.
