Building Housing Sen. Nina Turner's Cleveland Office at Center of Property Dispute

Men on property said they purchased building from a sheriff's sale, recovered guns and Iraqi currency

The building that houses Ohio Sen. Nina Turner’s Cleveland office was the subject of a property dispute Monday afternoon.

Patch that reported that a break-in occurred at Turner’s office. Cleveland Police have since released further information: it occurred in the building that houses Turner’s office as well as other businesses.

It does not appear that the office of Turner, who represents a district which includes Beachwood and Shaker Heights, was affected.

Cleveland Police were called to 4447 Lee Road in Cleveland at 3:23 p.m. for a burglary, according to the report.

The owner of another business in the building saw that the front door had been forced open and encountered three men on the property who told him they bought the building in a sheriff’s sale and were cleaning it out.

The business owner told police that two guns, a computer, and a safe containing $250,000 in Iraqi currency had been stolen, though he told police he did not see the men carrying anything out of the building.

Turner’s husband Jeff Turner told police later that nothing had been stolen from the senator’s office.*

The incident is still under investigation as police determine who owns the building and whether the guns and money were stolen by the men.

*CORRECTION: This article originally reported that this office was to be used by the Barack Obama presidential campaign. The police report notes that Jeff Turner gave officers this information. However, Obama for America - Ohio Press Secretary Jessica Kershaw issued a statement today: "This property is not an Obama campaign office and the campaign has no intention of using this property in the future.”
