Updated: Self-Defense Class Offered in Honor of Slain Beachwood Nurse Aliza Sherman

The location for the class has been changed to the Beachwood Community Center.

A Beachwood business is offering a women's self-defense course in honor of slain Beachwood nurse Aliza Sherman.

The class is set for noon, Sunday, July 28 at the Fairmount-Richmond Room of the Beachwood Community Center, 25325 Fairmount Boulevard, Beachwood.

The class will be taught by Master Gary Yano, 8th Degree Black Belt and State of Ohio Police Defense Certified Instructor.

From the campaign organizers: "We ask that everyone wear their "Justice For Aliza" t-shirts. For those individuals who have not yet obtained a t-shirt, we will provide them at the event."

The class was organized by Justice for Aliza, a community group that has rallied police to find the person who stabbed to death Sherman May 24 in downtown Cleveland. Partners to Empowerment Wellness Center is working with the organization to make this free event possible.
