Menorah Park Reports Poaching Suspicion

Police believe deer was not poached but will pay special attention to area

A security guard at reported that he had seen what he thought was a poached deer overnight last week, but police suspect it was hit by a car.

Lt. Keith Winebrenner said that the guard spotted the deer carcass, which he thought looked butchered, overnight Nov. 27, but removed it before notifying police.

He also reported a suspicious-looking white van driving around the property.

Winebrenner said that it is likely that the deer was hit by a car. It was found close to the road, he added, and it would be extremely unusual for anyone to hunt deer in Beachwood and surrounding cities.

Monday morning the guard’s supervisor reported it to police. The incident report calls for special attention to be paid to the area for potential poachers.
